to know him. as well as the united states senate. he is on the farm bills and authored most of the authorization bills. clearly his decision is personal i'm sure. he is frustrated with washington, d.c. and members of both parties are frustrated with the gridlock. the republicans will nominate somebody in main street, but while georgia is the so-called red state, president obama was able to get more than 45% of the vote there. i assume that we are going have a credible democrat who will seek the party's nomination. >> it's interesting that the conservative was afraid that even more conservative republicans may challenge him and he decided time to move on. let's move on ourselves. jeb bush the former florida governor cowrote a piece of the "wall street journal" calling for comprehensive immigration reform among other things, writing this. some tell us makers are calling for piece meal changes such as issuing visas or conferring legal status of immigrants who were brought in as children. congress should avoid such quick ficks and commit itself instead to comprehensive immigrati

: after a break, the house was even tougher than the senate. >> i think when you have a united states ambassador personally warning about the situation over there, sending this cable to your office -- >> if i could -- 1.43 million cables a year come to the state department. they are all addressed to me. >> madam secretary, you let the consulate become a death trap. and that's national security malpractice. >> reporter: throughout the day, the subtext for partisans on both sides, this was not the last act for hillary clinton. >> you will be sorely missed, but i, for one, hope not for too long. >> madam secretary, first let me thank you for your service, and i wish you the best in your future endeavors, mostly. >> okay, that was incredible on so many levels. by the way, that sound bite where you see hillary clinton, secretary of state, waving her arms saying what difference does it make, that, to me, encapsulates the difference between the way women think and the way men think. just look at it again. >> i don't know if that's -- no, no no, no. that is not a man/woman issue. >> yes, it i

vulnerable democrats who had barely won their seats to expand the majority of the united states senate. >> and in the house. not the majority but to pick up eight seats? >> pick up eight seats after in 30 states, they elected republican governors and republican legislate temperatures and redistrict seats to make them. if that did not happen the republicans would not be in charge of the house but the resdrithing that happened in that made those seats safe or the kind of democratic year that we had in 2012 not enough to change the chamber. >> so they've got to do some rebranding and rethinking. maybe rethinking some of their policies, too. michael, great to visit with you? >> thanks. >> a lot of fun. thap for coming in. you know the political landscape. we appreciate that. we will get you back in soon. >> thanks. >> you can form michael on twitter at michaelpmeehan. see you soon. >> this is "the bill press show," live on your radio and current tv. of openly-gay members of congress and openly-gay united states senator and a president who stands up for lgbt rights. [applause] as democrats, our party will proudly continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with our lgbt brothers and sisters as we continue this fight. as democrats we are proud that our party truly reflects the diversity of america. we should also be proud that our party made a commitment to insure that our diverse orty is reflected in our day-to-day o operations. by the way, it is no coincidence that this cycle we hired -- [inaudible] and exceeded our one-third diversity spend goal at the democratic national convention. and we have a president who leads the way. i could not have been more proud of our president more yesterday, particularly when he so eloquently reminded us that as americans our journey is not complete until it's complete for everyone. remember when he said our journey is not complete until our wyoming withs, our mothers and daughters can earn a living equal to their effort, our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like

of the united states, to expedite this entire process. there is opposition in the senate two comprehensive immigration reform. there is some competition in the house. but i am confident the majority of both houses, led by the president of the united states, who made this a major campaign issue, that we will succeed. we are not going to get everybody on board. >> you mentioned the fact that you have been here before. since 2007, senator kennedy stood with you -- 2007 was the year that you must [inaudible] you have expressed optimism. why is it different? >> as i have stated before elections, the republican party is losing support of our hispanic citizens. we realize there are many issues where everything we are in agreement with our hispanic citizens, but this is a preeminent issue with those citizens. also, over the years, republicans in particular, but also democrats, and all of our citizens, have realized the reality of what all my colleagues just stated. we cannot continue as a nation with the 11 million people residing in the shadows, and we have to address the issue, and it has to be
